DESCRIPTION: In mid-November, two former shelters hidden beneath Wrocław’s Grunwaldzki Square will open their doors to visitors. For three days, they will become the venue for a unique exhibition entitled 𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒, 𝐂𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒, 𝐒𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐒 – 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲. 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲. 𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐫, 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐫 by 𝐘𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐲 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐲, organised by the Wrocław Institute of Culture. Please see the programme in here.\n\n The event is part of the international Magic Carpets project and is curated by Paulina Brelińska-Garsztka, Brigita Bareikytė, Ana Gabelai and Linda Krumina. The main part of the exhibition will be held in a former shelter under the tenement house on Maria Skłodowska-Curie Street, where the artist lives. Biley proposes a 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐬𝐞 – as a space of care, sharing and safety.\n\n The title of the project refers to three types of shelters – shelters, hiding places and crevices, and the quote borrowed from Antoni Smoliński’s poem, ‘It’s somewhere further away, don’t worry. And now closer, even closer,’ encourages us to look closely at what is right next to us.\n\n The exhibition is a reflection on contemporary social and political events, as well as a review of the artist’s decade of work in Poland. His works – installations, collages, videos – are distinguished by their contextuality, narrative form and performative character.\n\n Magic Carpets is a network of 17 European artist residencies supporting young artists and curators and involving local communities in the artistic life of cities. The Wrocław Institute of Culture has been part of it since 2022.\n\n 𝟏𝟒–𝟏𝟔 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 | 11:00 AM –6:00 PM Three locations on 𝐆𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐳𝐤𝐢 𝐒𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 in Polish and English\n\n____The event is organised by the Wrocław Institute of Culture as part of the MagiC Carpets platform, co-financed by the Creative Europe programme. The Ładne Historie Foundation is partner of the event.\nThe Wrocław Institute of Culture is a new municipal institution offering activities aimed at supporting initiatives, developing skills, creating cooperation networks and organising events exploring various cultural niches. It is in Barbara, among other places, that the Institute’s programme activities are carried out.\n
