Beatrice Morino

’Im a Junior Project Manager and emerging curator at Latitudo Art Projects, still relatively new to the role. Coming from a background as a visual artist, I approach curating as a way to open up spaces where ideas can take shape collaboratively. Having lived between Italy and Kenya, my research lives at the crossroads of creativity and cultural identity. I’m particularly drawn to how art can unravel, and sometimes reweave, our understanding of self and community.

Areas of interest: Relational art, Visual art, Ecology, Urban Art

Why are you a part of “Magic Carpets”: I believe it’s an opportunity to learn, experiment and connect with people.

Opening of Lusaka Contemporary Art Centre- LuCAC’s inaugural exhibition Prospice, Kwacha!

Role: Assistant Coordinator

Lusaka Contemporary Art Centre, Founded by Victor Mutelekesha,  held its inaugural exhibition in 2023, Prospice, Kwacha!, Curated by Monica Reini it brought together four artists with hybrid Zambian identities, reflecting Lusaka’s diverse cultural crossroads. The title combines Prospice, meaning “look forward,” and Kwacha, meaning “it has dawned,” symbolising Zambia’s journey from independence to the present. The exhibition invites viewers to explore the city’s rich history and its evolving future.  MY Role was  assisting in coordinating the event’s activities, managed the preparations for the opening and exhibition, including talks and workshops, as well as overseeing and helping with the installation of artworks.

Why have you chosen to be a curator or why has curatorship chosen you? In recent years, I’ve developed a deeper appreciation for the complexity behind organising an art project. I’ve come to see how meaningful it is to connect with people and their ideas, and how powerful communication can be in bringing those ideas to life. It is an exciting process within my journey.

What do you think is the purpose of art? There is something inherently transcendent in being human.
