Mathilde Melek AN

Mathilde Melek AN is a Franco-Turkish artist with a body of work imbued by the interplay of the duality of her roots, establishing her artistic practice between Normandy, France and Istanbul, Turkey.
AN delves into themes of memory, identity, and multiculturalism, often employing a mixed media approach through immersive installations and performance art. Collaboration with artists, collectives and communities, plays a significant role in her practice.
She represents Mahalla as curator in the network Magic Carpets. As an artist-curator she invites artists to join her for collaborative artistic interventions in Istanbul.
Past projects
Midas Touch
Position: Co-curator
“Midas Touch” is the theme of Mahalla 2025. It calls for look at the dystopian reality of a global economy based on growth that ignores the threats of climate change, rising international armed conflicts, and forced migration.
Mahalla is co-directed by a team of Istanbul based artists and curators building up the network for eight years: Mathilde Melek An, Sabine and Thomas Büsch.
Why have you chosen to be a curator or why has curatorship chosen you? After several years of building an artistic community, I am very interested into showing and accompanying the works of artists that I feel fit to the organisations present in the Magic Carpets program and the events of Mahalla Festival.
