The ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics in Berlin is delighted to announce the presentation of a newly commissioned artwork by Melissa Rodrigues called CORONAS IN THE SKY, Not a Manifesto! an essay on Afrofuturism and Liberation. The five channel video installation will be presented at the ZK/U OPEN PARK HAUS on June 18th, 2020 and explores themes of racial, gender and social inequality in the past, present and future employing poetics and performance.
As part of the Magic Carpets Platform co-funded by the Creative Europe Program of the European Union, the artist was invited for a residency at ZK/U Berlin, which moved to the digital realm and her home in Porto, Portugal due to the current situation. The pandemic, its financial crisis, and its effect on the global regimes of borders, labour, vulnerabilities of marginalized communities, and notions of white supremacy were woven into the new video performance.
