Since 2011, Trempolino has been based in its emblematic seven-story building in the heart of
the Île de Nantes quarter, and is constantly seeking to make its spaces more open, more
user-friendly and better adapted to current and future users. In particular, the association
wishes to make its terrace and its adjoining bus, a true icon of the district, available to local
actors to develop projects, whether they be cultural or not.
In partnership with the École des Beaux Arts Nantes Saint-Nazaire, Trempolino has chosen
0101, a Nantes architecture agency, to lead a project of reflection and creation on future
uses. Joined by students from the Nantes Saint-Nazaire School of Arts, the Nantes School of
Architecture and local residents, it will form a group of "pioneers" who will discuss, occupy and temporarily fit out the terrace. The aim is to design a permanent space that stimulates and activates encounters between residents, associations, project developers, etc.
The preferred tool of the 0101 agency is the use of scale models, therefore they will be at
the heart of this co-construction. The approach will focus on the know-how of contemporary
craftsmanship in manufacturing, while also using digital techniques: prototypes, images,
maps, etc. By using the models, arts students will find experience in interdisciplinary work
and a field for experimentation.
The story of this residency on the Trempolino terrace is, we hope, the first step towards the
development of a living and convivial space, which will develop in the coming years: "Step by Step".
Step by Step is a project imagined within the framework of the European MagiC Carpets
program. In reference to the thousand and one stories of Scheherazade, MagiC Carpets
aims to encourage the circulation of artists through artistic residencies in connection with
local communities.
