Friday 10 February 2023 at the MAXXI museum in Rome (Italy) the Symposium Magic Carpets, a project beyond suburbia took place.

The meeting focused on European platform Magic Carpets – the awareness-raising project aims to cultivate a sense of belonging and to introduce to a broad and international audience young emerging talents who are called upon each year to confront different local identities through residency projects.

On the occasion of the meeting, the documentary CORE made by Monkeys Video Lab and curated by Latitudo Art Projects and the catalog for Magic Carpets Landed exhibition in Kaunas (Lithuania) published by Quodlibet was presented.

The topic of the community involvement projects was presented by CEO of the Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022 Virginija Vitkiene, CEO of Kaunas Biennial and the Manager of the EU platform Magic Carpets Neringa Kulik. A good examples of the collaboration and community based city projects were presented by the Curator, founder of the Liverpool Biennial Lewis Biggs and the Director of the Folkestone Fringe Diane Dever.

Italian artists who participated in the Magic Carpets projects across Europe were at the MAXXI for the roundtable discussion.
