Ukrainian Nights, Homo Novus by Aivars Ivbulis

Ukrainian Night for all of us started on 24 February, 2022 at 4 am. Since then we have all been waiting for the sunrise. This new sun will become a symbol of our victory over darkness and evil. An evening of stories “Ukrainian Night” with artist Tatiana Ibraimova and others who have come to Latvia after fleeing the war in Ukraine was dedicated to the war children and their parents, the birth of the sun accompanied by Ukrainian songs and lullabies.

The video also captures the dinner story evening “WITH A DREAM TO RETURN” where the visitors had the opportunity to experience the traditions of Ukrainian cuisine together with ten participants and discover the life story of each woman. “During the evening, we talked openly about lives changed by the war – how it started, those who stayed at home and those who managed to settle here, as well as how views and values have changed.”

Stories by: Olena from Poltava, Natalia from Kropivnitsky, two Tatyanas from Kharkiv, Antonina from Odessa, Lana from Rivne, Valentina and Jaroslava from Kiev, Irina from Izyaslov, Ludmila and Irina from Brovary.
Directed by Laura Čaupale.
