In mid-November, two former shelters hidden beneath Wrocลaw’s Grunwaldzki Square will open their doors to visitors. For three days, they will become the venue for a unique exhibition entitled ๐๐จ๐ฐ ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ๐๐ซ, ๐๐ฏ๐๐ง ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ๐๐ซ by ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ฒ ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ฒ, organised by the Wrocลaw Institute of Culture. ย The event is part of the international Magic Carpets project and is curated by Paulina Breliลska-Garsztka, Brigita Bareikytฤ, Ana Gabelai and Linda Krumina. The main part of the exhibition will be held in a former shelter under the tenement house on Maria Skลodowska-Curie Street, where the artist lives. Biley proposes a ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ก๐๐ซ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ โ as a space of care, sharing and safety.

ย The title of the project refers to three types of shelters โ shelters, hiding places and crevices, and the quote borrowed from Antoni Smoliลski’s poem, โIt’s somewhere further away, don’t worry. And now closer, even closer,โ encourages us to look closely at what is right next to us.

ย The exhibition is a reflection on contemporary social and political events, as well as a review of the artist’s decade of work in Poland. His works โ installations, collages, videos โ are distinguished by their contextuality, narrative form and performative character.

ย Magic Carpets is a network of 17 European artist residencies supporting young artists and curators and involving local communities in the artistic life of cities. The Wrocลaw Institute of Culture has been part of it since 2022.
